From the age of 14 Crystin has been singing and writing songs, at first simply on the piano, which she plays with a delicate touch and great sensitivity. Later she used basic recording equipment to put her songs on tape or on CD. Keeping the dream of becoming a professional songwriter mostly to herself, she headed for university after leaving school to study law. Inevitably, though, her passion for music drew her into the music business.
She established a studio of her own and started a successful career free-lancing for ad agencies, applying her not inconsiderable skills and talents to composing music for corporate events, image films and radio and TV commercials. Though she enjoyed her work immensely she still thought there had to be more to the music business than this, finding in herself the need to release her own songs to give scope and expression to her feelings and her personal style.
In 2003 she became an important motive and creative force at ‘electric-lounge’, an innovative record label specialised in lounge music which she now heads with the brilliant producer Wasja Schulz. In 2005 the idea to cut Crystin’s first solo album ‘PopLounge’ was born. The resulting debut album, ‘PopLounge’ is an eminently accomplished, multi-faceted work that speaks for itself most eloquently, embodying Crystin’s conception of music where songs, each a perfectly fashioned, unique vignette, span the broad range of life’s moods from an iridescently ecstatic state of happiness to a reflective melancholy.
Crystin’s latest work, her mercurial sophomore album ‘Astronaut’ is another glittering testament to the extraordinary calibre of her music. This suite of superb songs includes the alluringly ebullient and joyously infectious radio hit ‘You Make my Day’ and her new single, ‘Astronaut – Falling from the Sky’, a song of truly affecting stratospheric beauty.
Her album ‘Astronaut’ is the compelling result of 6 months worth of white nights spent doing the entire intense and painstaking work of writing, arranging, musical and vocal performance, recording, mixing and even creating the eye-catching artwork almost entirely alone while a hemisphere slept and dreamt. This effort born in moon-dim pre-dawn seclusion has self-evidently taken her to the brink of artistic fulfilment.
A free spirit and advocate of originality, Crystin is not beholden to convention, following no fixed rules – only the gentle urges of her heart, her musical sensibilities, her inner voice and her flair for ravishing melody and musical arrangement in her beloved endeavours of songwriting and production.
